Online petition calls for reversal on paid parking
AN ONLINE petition calling for the States to reverse the decision on paid parking attracted more than 300 signatures within 24 hours and was up to 466 today.
Former politician Tony Bran, pictured, created the change.org petition on Sunday after being outraged when deputies passed long-term paid parking for Town by 25 votes to 19 as part of the transport strategy. He believed the move to be unfair and in breach of human and equal rights.
There has also been talk on social media sites of a non-violent protest against the proposals.
Questions about whether or not the move will be challenged in the Assembly have been circling among politicians all weekend. It looks likely that those against the move will attempt to throw it out when the matter goes back for legislative approval. And some politicians who voted for the proposals have also warned that they will U-turn if the bus service is not brought up to scratch.
The saga has seen the Environment minister Roger Domaille, his deputy Tony Spruce and board member Barry Paint resign.
