Paid parking proposer has yet to talk to bus operator
ENVIRONMENT minister front-runner Yvonne Burford has admitted that she has not spoken to the current bus operator about making improvements to the service before paid parking is brought in.
Deputy Burford, pictured, has fought off criticism about long-term paid parking in Town, stating that it would not be introduced until dramatic changes to it have been made.
States members who supported the controversial plans have warned that they will perform a U-turn on their decision if the bus service is not transformed.
But it transpired yesterday that talks about improvements have yet to be held with CT Plus prior to the contract being up for renewal next year.
Deputy Burford, one of the architects of the paid parking proposals, who has confirmed she will be standing for minister, said the current contract with CT Plus could be amended, but only if both parties agreed.
She said she had not contacted the company previously because she was 'not in the position as a single board member' to do so.
But after the new board was elected next week, it would start talking to the operator as soon as possible.
