The five-year contract is expected to start on 1st April next year and it had been expected that Island Coachways would try and regain control of the service, which it ran until 2012.

But managing director Hannah Beacom announced that would not be the case.

'Island Coachways has withdrawn from the tender process for the provision of scheduled bus services in Guernsey,' she said.

'We are unable to provide any further details regarding this decision.'

The company shed 50 jobs when it pulled out of the last tender in 2011, citing that the proposal put forward by the Environment Department was not viable.
