They are also being asked to be courteous of their neighbours.

A multi-agency fireworks committee meets every year to discuss concerns and collaborate on the best way forward.

It includes representatives from the Guernsey Fire & Rescue Service, retailers, display organisers, the GSPCA, Health and Safety Executive, police and St John Ambulance and Rescue.

Gareth Griffin has sold fireworks at Oatlands for 15 years. He said retailers took their role very seriously in reducing the nuisance from fireworks, and anti-social behaviour relating to their use.

'Guernsey is the only place in the British Isles that has a minimum purchasing age of 20 for fireworks and we only sell fireworks for around 10 days prior to 5 November, despite having a licence to sell them year round.'
