Thousands turn up to North Beach protest

MORE than 2,000 people joined forces at North Beach car park this afternoon to let the States know that they have had enough.

The peaceful Enough is Enough protest gave islanders a chance to voice their concerns over issues including a goods and service tax, a width and emissions tax and paid parking.

Deputies including Matt Fallaize, Kevin Stewart and Yvonne Burford also got the chance to address the crowd at North Beach, although what they had to say was, at times, not well received.

Organisers said they hoped the demonstration would be the start of better communication between islanders and the States.

They will look to hold similar forums in the future.

K'han Holden said while it was interesting to hear deputies' reasons for proposing more taxes - 'It still doesn't answer the fact that we are having our pockets emptied.'
