The idea, which gained good support on social media, would see the currently derelict building transformed into a produce market, and Deputy Hadley is keen to see it the idea come to fruition as quickly as possible.

He will seek to bring a requete asking Treasury and Resources to grant a lease to Commerce and Employment to set up a company akin to the Dairy. Upon announcing the idea He said other deputies needed 'guts and imagination' to make it happen.

But among fellow deputies and officials who joined him for the tour, there was a message of caution and to proceed at a pace which would ensure any use of the building would not simply be a passing fad.

Culture and Leisure minister Mike O'Hara agreed it was a 'good idea in principle', but that in itself did not translate into an instantly workable idea.

'I think it is a good idea, but wWe need to have a sit down talk with Treasury and Resources and get a little more information,' he said.

'This is worthwhile to pursue, but we need more consultation and to draft a business plan.'
