The ruling has been issued by the Diocese of Portsmouth, under which both the Jersey and Guernsey Catholic Church come, to ensure that traditional values are maintained.
In Jersey, the Catholic Church sent notices to all funeral directors outlining the guidelines, which among the new requirements stated that only religious symbols or flowers could be laid on a coffin.
Most funeral directors in Guernsey were unaware of the incoming changes but Father Paul Dzwig, of the local Catholic Church, did confirm the alterations.
'We will be following the guidelines introduced in Jersey,' he said.
Jai Vaudin, director of Argent Funeral Services in Guernsey, said he had been informed of the modifications.
'We were told a while back about the changes that would be coming in,' he said.
Mr Vaudin, who has been a funeral director for 17 years, thought people would find it difficult to adapt.
