Michelle Duquemin told the Magistrate's Court how she had been forced to climb out of her Hyundai Getz through the passenger door as she feared that the car was going to blow up.

'I was in shock,' she said.

'I could smell burning rubber, smoke and steam.

'I was surprised that I got out of there alive, let alone without injury.'

Ms Duquemin said that in her view the police van was being driven too fast and she knew that she was going to get hit and was unable to take avoiding action.

PC Russell Johnson, 26, denies driving without due care and attention on Sunday 22 December 2013.
