Published yesterday, the 88-point action plan is in response to the extraordinary review led by NMC following the death of a newborn baby early last year.

This triggered the en bloc resignation of the HSSD board.

An NMC spokeswoman said it liaised with the department on what the plan would contain.

'The extraordinary review into supervision of midwives which took place in October 2014 identified several concerns around maternity care in Guernsey.

'We have worked closely with the HSSD and the LSA to ensure the action plans address these concerns.

'These action plans have been published today.

'We have commissioned an interim return visit, which will take place on 24/25 February.

'It will assess the early progress which has been made against the action plans.'
