Over the last six days there have been 700 entries and around 1,000 dancers taking part in the biannual event at Beau Sejour.

Festival committee member Ann Good said the 41st amateur stage competition had been 'wonderful'. 'We have had more entrants that ever before,' she said.

'This has been the biggest festival we have ever done and it has been a squeeze to fit in all the classes to the six days.'

The audience numbers have been high, with sell-out crowds on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.

On the final day some of the teenagers were given a chance to shine.

Macy Jackson, 14, from the Musicbox School, was performing a ballet group dance called Below Stairs, which showed the hidden lives of servants.

'It is all rushing around and people have jobs to do,' she said.

'It is really fun. It takes a lot of effort to keep in time with everyone. For me, this is not about the competition. It is about showing people what we can do.'
