Betty, 86, angered by States 'raid' on pension

OUTRAGE has greeted many of the changes contained within the Personal tax, benefits and pensions review.

Among those lambasting the effect on pensioners was 86-year-old Betty Thompson, pictured, who faces having to pay for prescriptions from 2016.

She said it was an outrage and was time for States members to look closer to home before going after pensioners' cash.

'It is disgusting, we cannot afford it. They should reduce their wages, they should not get paid. I bet they will be asking for a pay rise soon too,' she said.

The plan to raise the pension age to 70 met with fierce opposition from some islanders, who labelled the increase as 'simply unfair'.

Proposals to abolish family allowance sparked deep concerns among mothers yesterday, who all said the £15.90 a week made a huge difference.
