Laurie Queripel, who spent many years self-employed in construction, was very concerned about the possible redundancies at RG Falla. It revealed it would be looking at all cost-saving avenues as the number of large projects had dipped.
'I am concerned generally about the possibility of the industry contracting. Construction is a significant business and employment sector within Guernsey, it helps to diversify the economy and provides vital services, skills and employment/training opportunities, plus it is linked in with so many other businesses and services, merchants, suppliers, the legal profession, designers, architects, consultants and so on.
'In my view, current States policies, or lack of policies, don't help.
'Off-island traders are eating into the work that local contractors would undertake.'
