Wind shuts recycling tip

LONGUE HOUGUE reclamation site should reopen today after suffering damage on Thursday night.

The busy facility is normally open between 7.30am and 4pm on winter weekdays, but yesterday the workers arrived to find the weather had caused problems.

'It was very, very windy, as a result of which some of the Heras fencing and one of the gates blew over, affecting site access,' a Public Services Department spokesman said. 'The site hut was also slightly damaged and the roof of the covered area needed to be re-secured.' He added that it was hoped the site would reopen today.

Its winter weekend opening time is 9am-1pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
