Glenn Pugh, 35, is seeking confirmation he is in possession of an ultra-rare ghost Beanie Baby, of which there are only 100 in existence, after reading in The Sun that one he believed to be identical could be worth £62,500.

'We bought it in a car boot sale about a year ago for 95p. I have looked on the internet for an expert, and there was someone in America, but I do not want to send it all that way in case it gets lost in the post.

'We contacted the Antiques Roadshow, but have got nowhere and the shop which used to be the official retailer over here has closed down,' he said.

'We need to make sure it is the right one, but we are pretty sure. It has got the special pellets inside and gaps in the writing on the label, so it could be worth even more than that.'
