History pages of Liberation / Guernsey Press

The edition of Tuesday 15 May 1945 provided islanders with a round-up of all the top stories during the most important days of our island's history. It includes extracts from speeches by the Bailiff and Sir Winston Churchill, the Bailiff's message to the King and an article on how the German capitulation was signed.

A headline proclaiming 'Fly your flag at three this afternoon!' reveals the sense of relief and celebration at the island's liberation from the Occupying Nazi forces on 9 May 1945.

This fascinating keepsake is the latest in our set of new, collectable Liberation supplements produced to mark the 70th anniversary of Guernsey's freedom.

If you would like to order extra copies of this or any of the other editions featuring the special sections published since Saturday - including a 12-page pull-out with exclusive images of the island's liberation discovered in The Times newspaper's photographic archive - ask your newsagent or contact our offices at Braye Road, Vale on 240242.
