Stability of Tory win is welcomed by business

WITH the Conservatives on course to win an overall majority in the General Election, Guernsey's chief minister said he looked forward to developing a 'productive, open and mutually respectful relationship' with the final shape of the UK Government.

And with the Tories predicted to win 329 seats – three more than needed – Guernsey's business community welcomed the continued stability.

In an election that shocked the nation, Labour was wiped out in Scotland by the Scottish National Party and failed to make enough progress in England and Wales. Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg managed to hold onto his seat, but said it had been a 'cruel and punishing night' for his party.

Chief Minister Deputy Jonathan Le Tocq said at this stage the island would continue to watch developments in the UK with close interest.

'However, what is clear is that there have been some significant changes to the UK political map, most notably in Scotland.'
