Damning report into children's social care

'INADEQUATE' - the verdict on children's social care in Guernsey and Alderney in a damning new report into a service offered by Health and Social Services.

Published

Written late last year by HSSD's interim director of Children's Health and Social Care, Ruby Parry, the report lays bare the problems within the social care services, which it says has suffered from lack of investment, staff shortages, recruitment problems, an atmosphere of criticism and shunned by the higher levels of the department, who were not interested in hearing about problems.

Children within the system were safe, she was at pains to point out, but there was little more good that could be found.

'You are inadaquete. Although I have been very clear with staff that some of the issues you face are not unique, some of things I have found are very worrying. There is so little in the way of performance management, the most dreadful IT system I have ever come across and no investment. I am used to being in local authorites which have reams of data, but there was none.'
