Grammar PTA 'annoyed' as uncertainty returns

DOUBTS surrounding the future of the Grammar School have been reignited, the PTA vice-president yesterday said, as deputies passed a last-minute compromise between Treasury and Education.

Gordon Snell felt a lot of those connected to the school would be 'annoyed' by the amendment and he did not think it was in the students' best interest.

The PTA met Treasury and Education last month to express concerns about the uncertainty of the school's future.

'At both of those meetings we had our concerns allayed, but this amendment that has gone through just reignites those concerns.

'The amendment doesn't put the children first,' he said.

'The teachers also joined the Grammar School as an 11-18 school.

'That's what they're here for and that's what their contract is for.

'We can't blame the current States for the mess we are in, we need to go back to 2001 and 2008 and the decision to build Beaucamps when they did.

'But, as it stands at the moment, Treasury's positions would be that the Grammar is the one that closes.'
