The update from her father Vic Groves, pictured, comes after the court in Kashmir heard evidence from the police officer who seized evidence from the Guernsey girl's alleged murderer Richard de Wit.

It also heard the testimony of Samir Shoda, Miss Groves' boyfriend at the time, who said he had been away on a fishing trip with three friends on the night of her murder on a houseboat in Kashmir on Friday 5 April 2013.

Mr de Wit's new lawyer, Mr Mir, has requested time to review the evidence.

Mr Groves said a private investigation instigated by the family had interviewed those involved on the fishing trip.

'As part of the private investigative work undertaken away from the court, in many cases doing what the police should have done at the time, we have been able to establish that the alibi put forward by Samir Shoda – namely that he was away on a fishing trip with three friends – can be substantiated,' said Mr Groves.
