Shetland pony had a Storm of its own

WHILE the storm heralded floods and misery for some it resulted in an unexpected addition for one family, who have named their newborn foal after the wet and windy night.

Josette Youlton, 35, was amazed when she went to attend to her daughter's Shetland pony, Tinkerbell, yesterday morning to find she had given birth.

Having got the pony in February, she had no idea it was pregnant but was delighted to welcome Storm to the family.

'I woke up this morning at 5.30am to go muck Tinkerbell out and she was absolutely fine and didn't make any noises,' Mrs Youlton said.

'I went back inside to make my daughter's breakfast, but when I went back to Tinkerbell about an hour later, to my amazement there was a little foal still in its sac.

'I could not believe it and she is such a beautiful little foal.

'She must have been in labour throughout the night during the storm so that's why we decided to call the foal Storm.'
