St Sampson's sticks to its guns over poll opening times is refusing to open polling station early

The General Election will be held on Wednesday 27 April next year, but the northern parish has refused to budge on its timing despite the States Assembly and Constitution Committee's wishes.

St Sampson's senior constable Robert Broome, pictured, said: 'As far as we're concerned, we don't see the benefit of opening the polling station two hours earlier.

'We are sticking to ours guns, with the usual opening time of 10am.

'From our previous experience as a parish, most people come to place their vote at lunchtime or after work.

'In the mornings people are too rushed to come and do it.'
