More than 1,600 people responded to the consultation, which closed on Monday.
Many respondents felt that the current status quo, where only opposite sex couples can have their relationship legally recognised by the state, should not be maintained.
The majority of respondents indicated that they were in favour of introducing same-sex marriage while the 'Union Civile' proposal received some good support.
