Cheers as 007 number plate fetches £240,000 at auction
CHEERS rang out in the Beau Sejour concourse last night after the James Bond 007 car registration was sold for £240,000 following a session of see-saw bidding at a Martel Maides auction.
This was a significantly higher amount more than the £15,000-£20,000 original estimate. But who bought it remains a mystery.
The successful bidder, who was in the room, declined to comment.
A couple of phone bidders were also trying to get their hands on the number, but those who attended the auction began to show support for the man who ended up securing it and cheered when he was finally successful.
Registration number 08 went for £34,000, more than its estimate of between £20,000 and £30,000.
But not every lot sold that well. Number 027 went for less than had been expected, at £12,500, despite its estimate of between £14,000 and £18,000.
