Offers pour in to home Slovak puppies

HUNDREDS of people have offered to rehome the 25 dogs brought to the island from Slovakia illegally, the GSPCA manager has said.

As the society continues to provide for the dogs, which, before veterinary care, is costing it £400 a day, manager Steve Byrne said islanders had come forward in droves to offer to give them a better life.

'We always have a waiting list for puppies, we get about one person a day calling up, but honestly we could have rehomed each dog dozens of times because people know we suddenly have them and they are the in-vogue breed at the moment.

'After our Seafront Sunday, people have been offering towels, money and sponsorship, everything really.'

The dogs were in quarantine, he added, and would remain so until they have been fully vaccinated and have legal passports.
