The Sark Triathlon starts at 11am on 9 April and aims to be a fun event which will bring people to the island for the day to appreciate its unique and beautiful qualities.

So far, over 50 people have signed up to participate, with entrants hailing from the UK and France as well as the Channel Islands.

Competitors are being encouraged to hire bikes.

Race organiser Jenny Keeping said she had been imagining a triathlon on Sark for several years.

'Since I first came to Sark four years ago I knew it would be the ideal location for a great triathlon,' she said.

'It's totally unique in every respect – the disciplines are swapped around, the views are incredible, the distances are like no other triathlon and I've never known any race to encourage the use of hire bikes.'

The Sark triathlon will be a swim-run-cycle event, as opposed to the traditional swim-cycle-run format followed by most competitions.
