A DURRELL Wildlife Park resident came on a trip to Guernsey yesterday, but it was not for a holiday.

George, a 46-year-old radiated tortoise, travelled from Jersey to Vets4Pets in St Martin's to have a CT scan.

He has been having problems with his front right limb for a while and previous examinations have not identified the cause.

The St Martin's surgery is the only place in the Channel Islands which has an animal CT scanner.

Durrell veterinary surgeon Alberto Barbon said George has been examined and had a radiograph, but the problem had not been revealed.

Although he could move, he tilted to one side and struggled to stand up, which suggested he had a weakness.

'It is difficult to examine them when they are awake,' said Mr Barbon.
