Announcing that it is to survey its members to quantify losses, Linda Johnson, pictured, has joined calls for 'operational solutions to be implemented urgently' to address specific failures with air and sea travel.

Following weeks of disruption to services, including technical problems on aircraft and fast ferries, a number of industry officials have labelled the situation as critical, saying the island's tourism industry is in a 'fragile' state.

These included Confederation of Guernsey Industry chairman Larry Granger and Chamber of Commerce hospitality and tourism sub-group head Luke Wheadon. Mrs Johnson said the root causes must be addressed.

'Some critical air links are now with private operators under effectively unregulated and unaccountable monopoly conditions,' she said.
