'They have let my beautiful boyhood home fall into disuse'

AFTER growing up in the lighthouse keeper's house near Fort Doyle, Brian De Jersey cannot understand why the building has been left empty.

Tilers were on site last week and, despite the gale force north-easterly winds, the two large gaps in the roof tiles on the east and west side of the building have been fixed. The holes appeared during the storms of just over a week ago.

The scaffolding is to stay in place, in case any further tiles are dislodged by upcoming storms.

However, States Property Services, which manages the site, said there are no plans for the house, which has stood empty for years.

The lack of movement is particularly painful for Mr De Jersey, 68, pictured, who can remember the property as a vibrant home for two families.

He moved to the property when he was a year old in 1949, with his parents, Ernest and Winnie.
