'No warning and timing could not be any worse'

WINE companies have been left with little parking on St Georges Esplanade for their busiest weeks of the year, due to work for Guernsey Water.

Workers from Geomarine are cleaning and surveying the St George's Esplanade outfall, which has resulted in machinery being parked in the disc parking spaces and temporary traffic lights being installed.

Sommelier Wine Company Ltd owns the Grapevine, which relies on the parking along the front.

Company director Richard Allisette said the suspension of the spaces came as a nasty shock.

'There was no consultation and no warning,' he said.

Guernsey Water capital delivery manager Mark Walker said he was sorry for the disruption.

Originally the company was taking up 10 spaces and an unloading bay, but four spaces have now been released, as well as the unloading bay.
