But one of them, Peter Ferbrache (left of picture), said he would vote against the vote of no confidence led by Emilie Yerby.

The other, Peter Roffey (right of picture), said he could be interested if the presidency became available.

He said it was not top of his agenda, but it was important someone who believed in the States resolution to get rid of selection at 11 took the project forward, so he may pursue the role.

'If it became vacant and there was no credible candidate who really believed in the project that the States have agreed, then, with reluctance, I might go for it,' he said. 'But I will look very carefully for someone else first.'

Similarly, Deputy Ferbrache said he would be interested in the role, but not in ousting committee president Paul Le Pelley.

'I will go for it if the vacancy arose, but I'm not going to vote in favour of the motion of no confidence,' he said.
