THOSE with an interest in the restoration of The Little Chapel met together at the site for the first time yesterday.

The chapel closed nearly two years ago due to structural failure and water ingress but it is now open again due to the efforts of the Little Chapel Foundation.

'The purpose of today is for everybody to meet on site to assess progress to date and to thank everybody who is involved with the project,' said Foundation chairman Pat Johnson.

Patrons of the Foundation are the Bailiff of Guernsey and the head of the island's Catholic Church.

The Bailiff Sir Richard Collas said the Little Chapel was a symbol of love, devotion and dedication and it was quite emotional to see it in its full glory once again.

'To some people it is our greatest tourist attraction, while to others it is dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes,' he said.

The work represented the Guernsey community at its best, he said.
