MAINTENANCE work on the Princess Elizabeth Hospital roof should start in August.

A tender has recently been issued for the project.

The ageing G Block flat roof, along the central spine of the main PEH building, will be replaced as a priority.

The Sherwill Link roof has also been included in the tender package, however, work to re-cover it will take place only if there are sufficient funds left over from the budgeted costs.

Head of estates Clive Martin said the proposed areas were just a small part of the hospital's roof.

'The work is routine maintenance as the existing roof on G block is old,' he said.

'The section in need of reroofing represents approximately 4% of the PEH roof area.'
