Waiting list for Elizabeth College due to big Year 6

ELIZABETH COLLEGE has had to set up a waiting list in the wake of high demand for places for the next school year.

The last time this happened was three years ago, said principal George Hartley.

With selection at 11 to end and uncertainty over whether or not there will be a Grammar School in the future, it was thought this could lead to an increase in applications for places at both Elizabeth and The Ladies' colleges.

But Mr Hartley indicated that the demand this year is due to other factors.

'A combination of a large intake from the Elizabeth College Junior School, which is full in most year groups, and an above average cohort of boys in Year 6 across the Bailiwick has meant that the college has a full intake,' he said.

It is able to take a total of 88 boys this year, which includes 23 special-place holders.

There has been no increase in demand for places at The Ladies' College, said principal Ashley Clancy.

Applications for entry are similar to previous years, she added.
