Guernsey Ladies prove that they are 'Simply the Best'

THE plan came together perfectly yesterday as Guernsey Ladies celebrated becoming Women's National Conference South East South One champions in front of over 300 fans in a jubilant Garenne Stand.

'As we had hoped, the crowd turned up, they were brilliant and we put on a show for them,' said a smiling coach Chris Griffiths as the last few bars of Tina Turner's Simply The Best faded out from the public address system after a 85-0 win over Worthing Ladies.

This was the joyous afternoon Griffiths and his players deserved at the culmination of a memorable season that has seen them win 12 of their 14 games to earn the crown.

On paper, with their biggest test having come last month in their victory over main title rivals Lewes, this always looked like a game Guernsey should win and their coach admitted as much afterwards, but he added that 'I didn't think we would win it quite that emphatically'.

The home side scored 13 tries in total, Vicki Rang leading the way with five while there were two apiece for flankers Tanya Scholtz and Fiona Power as well as scores for captain Jemma Crouse, Hannah McLennan, Fiona Ashworth and Kristine Vavere.
