IT WAS a memorable weekend for one island sporting team – Saffery Panthers – as the netballers learned on Friday night that they had been promoted to Division Two South for the first time.
That is without the need to compete in next month's play-offs.
Having finished third in Division Three South for the third time in four seasons they thought they would have to play in a four-team tournament to try and earn their first promotion.
But the withdrawal of a team from Division One, as well as Sussex NRG Pumas being unable to field a team for the play-offs, means that Panthers enter the eight-team Division Two, while Eagles Two and Swan Centre retain their places.
Meanwhile, Guernsey FC are still waiting to confirm their Ryman South survival after losing 3-2 at home to Horsham on Saturday.
