Champions inflict a first defeat on leaders Gremlins

THE Sledgehammers’ hopes of retaining the T&C Roofing Premier Division title are very much alive after consigning La Villette Hotel Gremlins to a first league defeat.

Danny Marquand crucially won the last frame of the night to seal a 7-5 win and close the gap to seven points.

It was a promising start for La Villette with Martyn Desperques getting two frames in their 3-0 lead, but he was powerless in the next as Adam Shorto fired in a fine 69 clearance.

John Skillett had seen his opening frame 45 break go to waste against Adrian Holley, but he took the next two for a share of the first half.

With Desperques dropping a frame, Glenn Le Prevost had the chance of closing the aggregates back to one frame with a 3-0 win, and he accomplished that with increasing comfort against Darren Hughes.

That did not look to be enough to bring the Sledgehammers the much needed win, though, with Seb Priaulx opening a 2-0 lead, but Marquand took the last on the blue.

If matters at the top are less certain, it is a different story at the bottom where RAF Reds’ plight deepened further.

Without a win since October and missing Graham Peel, a 9-3 defeat to Ex-Service Hot Butts leaves the Reds 13 points adrift of their opponents, and in desperate need of a return to form.
