TERRY Duquemin and Darren Setters won the 2003 Advanced Hearing Services Limited Easter Three Bowl Pairs Tournament with an emphatic display in the final session of the gruelling weekend's indoor bowls action at Hougue du Pommier. As preliminary group winners, they faced the visiting Doe-Nuts pair of Tony Morgan and Brenda Bennett from Kent in the final session, while early pace setters Lager Louts (Dave Trebert and Matt Le Ber) faced Craig Dorey and Steve Desperques in the same final session.

Trebert and Le Ber were unbeaten going into the final game.

They were favourites to win the title with Desperques and Dorey not quite finding the form that had seen them the victors in the previous two years.

However, an impressive final game performance by Desperques and Dorey secured a 20-7 win.

The Lager Louts were left with a hangover, losing out on shot difference to Duquemin and Setters, who had previously dropped a game to them by five shots on Sunday evening.

Duquemin had been in fine form at lead and must have done enough to convince the selectors that he is worthy of an inter-insular place on the showing that he put up over the weekend.

His performance against the Wasps combination of Ray Sarre and Paul Ingrouille had been remarked upon by seasoned followers of the game as being one of the best performances seen at the Hougue du Pommier Stadium this year.

Setters also played his part and backed his colleague up superbly over the course of the weekend with a great display of drawing and driving when necessary to stake a claim to the £250 top prize.

The final game between the NFI team and The Doe-Nuts was of the highest calibre, with all four players playing their part in an enthralling encounter.

There was all to play for over the last couple of ends, but Setters hung in there and played a perfect last bowl delivery to finally secure victory by 16-11.

With that victory came the tournament spoils with four wins out of five in the final stages and a plus-38 shot difference compared to the Lager Louts' four wins with a plus 14 shot difference.

Desperques and Dorey took third prize with the visiting Doe-Nuts taking fourth. Shrimpers, led by Frank Berry from Kent assisted at various times by Chris Dyer, Geoff Rioch and Tish Duquemin, took fifth from Special Olympics bowler Ray Sarre and Paul Ingrouille in sixth.

Special Olympics bowler Paul Rowe partnered by Rick Brehaut won the plate competition and the Aristocat team of juniors Joseph and Thomas Mahy skipped alternately by their father Dave Mahy took second place.

Third place went to the Midas team of Special Olympics bowler Michael Domaille and Dave Lock with fourth and fifth going to Special Olympics bowlers Andy Crimp and Mark Matthews partnered by Anna Brehaut and Carol Ingrouille respectively.

The weekend had kicked off with two round robin groups and the top three of each group contested the top places and the remaining teams contesting the plate.
