TRISTRAM MORGAN is being linked with a sensational move to Sylvans. The Vale Rec midfield maestro, who last week won the 2002/03 players' and Priaulx League player-of-the-year awards for helping his club to their first Priaulx League title in a decade, is reported to be interested in joining the westerners.

Sources out west suggested that he might also be involved with the coaching set-up, possibly even succeeding current boss Richard Packman.

Yesterday Sylvans officials declined to make an official comment and the player himself is currently in the UK on a Grammar School trip.

Meanwhile, Vale Rec manager Ray Blondel said little to diffuse the story.

Although keen to keep hold of the player Blondel said that he could not stop anyone from leaving the club during June if they so wished, as every player is free to talk to any other club in that period.

'He and a couple of other lads have spoken to me about their positions with the club for next season.

'Trim and I had a good natter and at this time he is still a Vale Rec player and has not asked for his form back,' said Blondel.

'We are in a situation where everyone is in a position to move this month. If they are not happy at their club, that is up to them. Everybody is free to do what they like.

A former semi-professional, Morgan made a tremendous impact on the local football scene during his first season on the island.

With his skill and creativity, he was the driving force behind Vale's

successful championship campaign which, ironically, prevented Sylvans from claiming a record-breaking 10th consecutive title.

On the back of his club performances, he represented Guernsey in three South-West Counties Championship fixtures and scored on debut in Devon.

He was ineligible to play in both the Muratti and Island Games, but Guernsey manager Colin Fallaize has kept Morgan involved with the squad in a coaching capacity.

Richard Packman, Sylvans' current boss, said he was totally unaware of the Morgan situation.

'I can honestly say that is the first I have heard of it.'

Packman did, however, confirm

that he had spoken to St Martin's and island striker Neil Clegg and he

was confident that he would be signing for Sylvans before the month was out.

Goalkeeper Matt Oliver is also switching to St Peter's and there is a suggestion that Muratti midfielder Kevin Gilligan may also quit Blanche Pierre Lane for St Peter's.
