SARNIANS secured a last-end victory against Raiders in the preliminary round of the Sandeman Fours courtesy of a fine draw by skip Stan Simon. Raiders were trailing 13-16 but were holding three shots and their skip, John Martel, still had a bowl to play.

Simon drew a great shot with his second wood and Martel was unable to dislodge it.

In the same round, Falcons beat Bridge. The next round sees champions Police against Vale A at the Corbet Field.

There was a similar result for Martel's Raiders in the Tostevin Triples. They lost by one shot to the BLC Triple team, skipped by Dan Le Cheminant.

There was also a one-shot victory for Brats against Firing Squad, while Phoenix secured a two-shot win against Mafia.

Tostevin Triples champions Geomarine, comprising Geoff Savident, Steve Bichard and Ricky Brehaut, continued their progress despite a setback on the day as Ricky Brehaut had to sit out injured. Henry Drillot stepped in.

In the preliminary round of the Smithard (Veterans) Singles, there was a surprise win for Brian Garner against the more experienced Bernie Simon.

In the Travers Pairs, Daniel de la Mare and Iain Merrien beat Bryn Besnard and Dave Masterton by two shots.

Sid Le Maitre and Roy Queripel had an easy passage into the next round when they played Pete Le Cheminant and Frank Rowe.

It was a similar story for Len Le Ber and Dave Trebert against Gareth Owen and Matt Le Ber, Len's son.

What could have been a close contest, with the sides evenly matched and experienced, resulted in an easy win for Dave Lucas and Gary Pitschou against Ralph Deakin and Paul Merrien.

In the Elliott Singles, reigning champion Pitschou beat Gary Collins and will now play Mac Timms in the next round.

Timms had an excellent win over Craig Dorey. Ricky Nash enjoyed a good win when playing the experienced Ralph Deakin.

The next round will see Len Le Ber playing his son Matt which, if both players hit their form, should be an interesting match and one too close to call.

Stan Simon had a close win over Daniel de la Mare.
