Falcons deny Pitschou five titles out of five
GARY PITSCHOU walked away from the 2003 Island Championship finals with four titles under his bulging arms.
GARY PITSCHOU walked away from the 2003 Island Championship finals with four titles under his bulging arms. The defending singles champion appeared in five finals at the Corbet Field and lost out just once, in the Sandman Fours.
The Elliott Singles (island championship) was retained with a 21-17 win over Bernie Simon, but Pitschou was pushed even harder in the Press Singles which he snatched 21-20 from under the nose of Ian Merrien.
The Bell under-25s' title went to Matt Le Ber who edged out Garry Collins on the last end.
Collins was holding game on that decisive end, but Le Ber produced an extra running bowl and played the jack into the ditch to win the game.
The Tostevin Triples was also close, with Locals (Pitschou, Len Le Ber and Dave Lucas) taking two shots on the final two ends to edge home from Dave Trebert's Falcons team.
'The game was very tight and could have gone either way,' said the defeated skip, Trebert.
