GRAMMAR SCHOOL pupil Dominic McLuskey reached the semi-final of the Scottish Under-16 indoor championships. After winning the under-14 title last year, he moved up an age group this year and competed very well despite a series of injuries which have kept him out of competitive tennis since last August.

In the quarter-finals he beat LTA Futures player Callum McCrae 6-1, 6-1 to reach the last four.

During this match he strained his back, but managed to carry on to play in the semi-final against an older opponent, Andrew Smillie.

It was a close encounter but Smillie proved to be that bit stronger in the end and won 6-4, 6-3; he went on to win the tournament.

McLuskey is looking forward to competing on the junior tennis circuit in the coming months and his main focus this year is the British under-15 national champion-ships which take place during August in Bournemouth.
