FA Cup gets nod

THE proposed Guernsey FA Cup has been unanimously approved by GFA council, albeit only at an in-principle stage so far. The details will be thrashed out in time for debate at the GFA annual meeting on 1 July.

'It was felt that there were so many opinions and ideas that they should be discussed in full,' said newly-elected president Dave Dorey.

'The Cups, Leagues and Grounds Committee will get together with representatives of the Ernst and Young Business League and the Sunday Soccer League to form a working party to decide the best way to have a Guernsey FA Cup.

'Representatives from both the business league and the Sunday league were at the meeting and both were fully supportive,' Dorey added.

Submissions should be made through clubs, said GFA secretary Matt Fallaize, although he was willing to listen to suggestions regarding the format of the cup which will be first contested in 2004-05.

Earlier, Dorey had succeeded Alec Le Noury at an EGM.

'I will be the same Dave Dorey. I will look to take things forward at a considered pace,' said the new president.

'There are a lot of things to look into: Uefa, a CI league, youth football among others. We have to sit down and decide with the new team that we have what's to be first on that list, what's most important.

'I have also proposed Pierre Blampied for the fourth place and Dave Nussbaumer has offered himself and I propose that he be senior vice-president.'
