Le Quesne is retained

GUERNSEY women won on four of the six rinks to claim the women's Le Quesne inter-insular trophy at St Brelade for another year. Among the winning skips was Doreen Batiste, whose first taste of skipping a 'Muratti' four resulted in an 18-11 win.

Guernsey fielded three new caps in Sally Tranter, Lynn Small and Carol Besnard, all of whom performed well despite losing their rink.

Twenty-four hours later many of the island squads were in action at a windy Les Creux in the CI finals.

Guernsey again enjoyed a good day, winning three titles, including the mixed pairs, triples and fours.

The Friends Fours was close throughout, but Guernsey's team of Angela Bartie, Mavis Richards, Lorraine Ellis and Anna Brehaut finally emerged on top, 20-17.

The turning point came in the 13th end when some excellent play by Lorraine Ellis saw the Sarnians claim a five to move 18-13 ahead.

In the triples, Alison Merrien, Sally Paul and Lianna Bichard combined to beat Barry, Le Ruez and Allen 20-11.

Paul and Bichard were also part of the drawn fours' squad along with Joy Moseley and Lynn Small, who lost 16-15 after leading up until the very last end.

In the mixed pairs, Alison and Ian Merrien edged out the Jersey couple, Mauger and Renouf, 22-19, but the women's pairs, national singles, over-70s singles and over-60s' singles all went the way of the home island.

In the two veteran singles' events Peggy Fish and Wilma Le Feuvre lost by big margins and in the national one Pam Harding, who had beaten Alison Merrien in the Guernsey championship, went down 21-7 to Sue Noel.
