PORT CITY will continue for the time being, but may not survive the season. That is the stark warning outlined by over-worked club president, coach, kit-washer, council delegate and player Nigel Staples.

'We've taken a decision to carry on for the time being,' said Staples, who is seeking new players and help to run the club.

'As long as there are others who want to keep it going we will. But we are struggling to find players, struggling to get money,' said Staples, who has had to call off one game (the Collins Cup tie against Rangers) already due to a shortage of players and started another with just 10.

'We've got 26 signed on but from those we still couldn't field a full side.'

Staples confirmed that a crisis meeting had been called for this Monday, but there was sufficient support for him to be convinced it was worth carrying on for now.

'I want to see the club carry on but I can do only so much.

'It was not an ultimatum, but I need more help.'

Staples, who has been frustrated in attempts to sign a Welshman and a Pole because they need clearance from their respective association, said the situation would be reviewed early in the new year.

In the meantime he would be happy to hear from potential new players.

Sylvans will almost certainly be displaced as leaders of the Priaulx League tomorrow.

Both St Martin's and North can leapfrog the westerners with a home victory over Vale Rec and Rangers respectively. In the third of tomorrow's first-team triple-header Rovers entertain Belgraves at Port Soif.
