MATT WARREN sensationally signed for Rangers this week - or so they thought. The Muratti midfielder, who helped Sylvans regain the Priaulx League championship last season, seemingly joined the St Andrew's outfit when the 'transfer window' opened on Wednesday, the beginning of the month where players are entitled to move without objection.

A Rangers official even called the Guernsey Press sports desk to reveal the news and coach Mac Gallienne also believed it was a done deal, calling it 'a great signing'.

However, the wind was taken out of their sails when they found out that an incorrect form had been used.

'He signed a registration form, which is apparently the wrong one. He needs to sign a transfer form,' said Matt Marquis of Rangers.

GFA secretary Matt Fallaize has been on holiday and returns to his office today. He had not been made aware of the situation officially.

Warren himself opted not to comment on the matter and his future looks unclear although the red-and-blacks are still hopeful that he will sign.

Gallienne admitted that the club had 'highlighted two or three players we would like to sign' in a bid to continue the progress they have made during his tenure.

'We have improved over the last couple of seasons and now we want to take the next step,' he said.

'We now want to start looking to challenge for trophies and give the big boys a run for their money.'

* GUERNSEY manager Steve Ogier's assistant Tony Vance will take Trim Morgan's place in the playing squad for this summer's NatWest Island Games in Shetland.

The Vale Rec midfielder has pulled out of the tournament due to personal reasons and so Vance has been given an unexpected chance to don the green-and-white once more.

'Tony has been playing all season anyway and he will add something to the squad,' said Ogier.
