THE Sarnian men's team bidding to end an eight-year losing run in the Le Quesne Trophy has been announced. The inter-insular match against Jersey is in Guernsey on Saturday 3 September on a green yet to be decided.

Team manager Garry Collins admitted that it was a difficult time of year for him: 'I hate this time of the season. I am ?Billy no mates? because I either pick you or I don't,' he said.

'But I remind myself that I do the job to try to succeed where others have not. I'm not looking for friends, I'm looking for a trophy.'

Collins was appointed last year after the resignation of Derek Barlow and saw his team lose by only five shots in Jersey.

Along with his fellow selector, his father, Nigel, Collins spent three days debating the 24-strong team and decided on 10 players from both Vale Rec and North and four from the Beau Sejour-based GBC.

'With the introduction of the new Guernsey Glass Island League, this will be best chance of Guernsey winning at home,' said Collins.
