MATT WARREN made a surprise and effective return to first-team action at the Corbet Field last night, but it was another Matt - Drillot - who most caught the eye, not to mention have the most telling effect on the game. Drillot scored twice for a Sylvans side who were just about one goal better than the home team and certainly not three.

Vale Rec missed a stack of chances and Richard Davey made two notably brilliant saves, firstly from Matt Patch within a minute of Drillot heading Sylvans in front from a corner after 39 minutes and in the second half when he somehow deflected Mark Ogier's point-blank effort onto a post.

Striker Jonathan Le Tocq doubled the visitors' advantage on 60min. after 16-year-old keeper Andrew Rigden - again filling in for the honeymooning Jody Bisson - threw the ball straight to the goalscorer and paid the price.

Drillot, the best player on the pitch, lashed in the third when Vale failed to clear a corner with 90 minutes on the clock.

Warren, who only returned to training this week and went straight into the team, is still obviously well short of full fitness but player-strapped Sylvans must have been relieved to welcome back such an experienced player.

How Vale could do with someone of equal stature in their midline.
