SHANE BILLIEN shot down the newly-crowned champions as Bels crashed 3-0 at St Andrew's on Saturday and blue-and-whites boss Micky Ogier admitted it was the right result. 'We made a couple of mistakes. They fully deserved it,' said Ogier, who agreed that his team were not mentally tuned in after the thrills of the midweek championship celebrations.

Rangers boss Mac Gallienne said it was probably the best result of his tenure.

'We played really well ... it was a fantastic performance.'

Rangers led 1-0 at the break and Billien took the home side ever nearer that third-place finish and Wheway Cup spot they have been targeting with two more after the hour.

Gallienne's side still lead fourth-placed Vale Rec by six points, the Corbet Fielders having won 2-1 at Port Soif.

Gareth Holden and Tony Manning scored for Vale who, perhaps crucially, have two games in hand on the red-and-blacks. Simon Tostevin netted for the wooden-spoonists.

But Wheway Cup football is one competition definitely beyond St Martin's next season, Saints having lost their semi-final 4-1 against Trinity at the RJB Fields.

Chris Mauger gave the visitors a 1-0 interval lead with a good finish at the end of a fine move.

But with a strong wind blowing down the pitch, Saints could have done with more goals before turning into the elements and after Trinity had equalised early in the second half, they soon got ahead and ran out comfortable winners.

Trinity are also through to the Jeremie Cup final where they will play North, 3-0 winners over Grouville at Northfield.

Dave Rihoy scored twice and Darren Martin added another late on for the home side, who could afford to miss a penalty.

At Blanche Pierre Lane, Guernsey's under-18s ended their South-West Counties Youth Championship campaign with an encouraging 3-1 win over Berks & Bucks.

The hosts responded well to going a goal down within two minutes and the loss of Billy Page to injury just three minutes later.

A Jon Loaring penalty, a Naro Zimmerman header and a goal from Kris Moherndl gave Paul Ockleford's side the points.

'If we can build on this and time it all for the Junior Muratti, it could be a good result against Jersey,' said the coach.
