It is the chocolate-and-blues' first under-16 title since 2002 and although coach Ross Cameron was thrilled with the achievement, he was keen to praise his players.

'It is all about them really: I am delighted with the boys,' he said.

The side were presented with the silverware at Northfield last night.

Having won the championship when results went their way on the weekend, they enjoyed their title party by defeating Vale Rec 4-0.

'They have done really well. Sylvans beat them very early in the season and I think that acted as a wake up call for them and they have not lost since. I really am delighted,' he added.

'I think what makes it even better is that only two players will be moving up to youth one next season so it has been a young group,' said Cameron.

His playing career was cut short after suffering multi-ligament damage to his knee.

Following 18 months of rehabilitation, Cameron has taken on the coaching role and although he would still rather be donning the chocolate-and-blue strip, 'after playing I suppose this is the next best thing', he said.

Club president Dave Finn is very happy with the trophy but conceded it was somewhat unexpected.

'We are all delighted at North, but we did not really expect to win it this year as most of the lads are in their first year at youth two.

'It is great because we will have most of the lads again next year,' he said.

Finn paid tribute to the skills of Cameron in his first year as coach.

'Ross has been great, he has been with North most of his life and came through the youth ranks as well.

'He has done well and I can see him being a senior coach one day,' said Finn.
