GUERNSEY'S men's team won on three of the six rinks, but an inferior points difference cost them at Les Creux in Jersey. Just 12 shots separated the two islands at the end of a damp day in the sister isle, but team manager Garry Collins is hopeful that the Sarnians' sorry run in the match will soon be at an end.

'It was a strange game,' said Collins.

'We shared the spoils but lost on overall points difference.

'I must congratulate all the new caps,' added Collins, who was particularly happy with the efforts of new boy, the former Vale Rec footballer Wes Baker.

Collins said that until three years ago, Jersey were regularly winning comfortably, but the tide was showing signs of changing.

'Last time we played in Jersey we lost by six shots, last year it was 11 shots and this year 12. It's getting close, especially when you look back at the previous five years' scores.'

The best Guernsey team performance came from Matt Le Ber's quartet.

Together with his father, Len, Ricky Nash and Don Batiste, they won by 12 shots.

The difference in the women's clash was 17 in the Caesareans' favour.

All six rinks produced tight games but the only Sarnian winners were the four skipped by Angela Bartie.

Together with Lorraine Ellis, Jan Lawrence and Mavis Tardif they beat their opponents, 23-16.

Bartie was a winner again on day two during the CI Championship finals, winning her over-60s' final 21-17 against L. Cole, her opposing skip the previous day.

Ricky Brehaut also enjoyed a good Sunday, playing a key role in both the successful fours and triples squads.

He skipped the team of Paul Sargeant, Phil Schofield and Geoff Savident to a 20-11 win and was joined by Sargeant and Savident in the winning triples side.
